Nuaflex Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Directive

1. Our Unwavering Commitment to Safety

At Nuaflex, the health and safety of our employees, contractors, and visitors is our highest priority. No business objective or operational goal will ever take precedence over safety. We believe that all workplace injuries and occupational illnesses are preventable, and we are committed to providing the resources, leadership, and training necessary to achieve a zero-incident work environment.

This Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Directive outlines the framework and principles that govern our approach to safety management across all Nuaflex facilities. It establishes our commitment to creating and maintaining a culture where safety is a core value, shared by every individual in the organization.

2. Core Principles

Our OHS management system is built upon the following fundamental principles:

  • Prevention: We focus on proactively identifying, assessing, and mitigating workplace hazards before they can cause harm.
  • Compliance: We are committed to meeting or exceeding all applicable local, national, and international health and safety laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Responsibility: Safety is a shared responsibility. Management is accountable for providing a safe workplace, and every employee is responsible for working safely and looking out for their colleagues.
  • Continuous Improvement: We are dedicated to the continual improvement of our OHS performance through regular audits, reviews, and employee feedback.
  • Well-being: We recognize that occupational health extends beyond physical safety to include the overall well-being of our employees.

3. Key Areas of Focus

To implement our commitment, Nuaflex focuses on the following key areas:

3.1 Hazard Identification and Risk Management

  • Risk Assessments: We conduct regular, systematic risk assessments for all routine and non-routine tasks to identify potential hazards and implement effective control measures.
  • Hierarchy of Controls: We apply the hierarchy of controls (Elimination, Substitution, Engineering Controls, Administrative Controls, Personal Protective Equipment) to mitigate risks, always prioritizing the most effective measures.
  • Incident Investigation: All incidents, including near misses, are thoroughly investigated to determine root causes, and corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence.

3.2 Employee Training and Competence

  • Safety Training: All employees receive comprehensive OHS training upon hire and on an ongoing basis. This includes job-specific hazard training, emergency procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Empowerment: Every employee is empowered with the “Stop Work Authority” and is expected to halt any task they believe is unsafe without fear of reprisal.
  • Consultation: We actively consult with employees on matters affecting their health and safety through safety committees and regular meetings.

3.3 Safe Work Environment

  • Machine Guarding: All machinery is equipped with appropriate safety guards and emergency stops to protect operators from hazards.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): We provide and ensure the proper use of necessary PPE (e.g., safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, hearing protection) based on risk assessments for specific tasks.
  • Chemical Safety: We maintain a robust Hazard Communication Program, including the proper labeling of chemicals, accessible Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and employee training on safe handling procedures.
  • Ergonomics: We proactively address ergonomic risks in both manufacturing and office environments to prevent musculoskeletal injuries.

3.4 Emergency Preparedness and Response

  • Emergency Plans: Each facility maintains a detailed Emergency Response Plan covering potential scenarios such as fire, medical emergencies, chemical spills, and natural disasters.
  • Drills and Training: We conduct regular emergency drills and training to ensure that all personnel are prepared to respond effectively in an emergency.
  • First Aid: We provide adequate first-aid facilities and trained personnel to render immediate assistance in case of injury or illness.

4. Roles and Responsibilities

  • Management: Is responsible for leading the OHS effort, providing necessary resources, setting clear safety objectives, and holding the organization accountable for its performance.
  • Supervisors: Are responsible for implementing OHS policies on a day-to-day basis, ensuring their teams work safely, and providing immediate coaching and correction.
  • Employees: Are responsible for following all safety rules and procedures, using provided safety equipment, reporting hazards and incidents promptly, and actively participating in the safety program.

5. Governance and Performance

This directive is implemented through our certified OHS Management System (e.g., ISO 45001). We set measurable OHS objectives and targets annually, and our performance is regularly monitored, audited, and reviewed by senior management to ensure continuous improvement. Adherence to this directive is mandatory for all Nuaflex operations.
